Who We Are
The AHKF Urban Impact Lab (UIL) in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, draws inspiration from the pioneering work of social scientist Akhter Hameed Khan, particularly his Orangi Pilot Project (OPP). Like OPP, which revolutionized sanitation in Karachi’s largest slum through community-led initiatives, AHKF UIL focuses on empowering communities in Dhok Hassu-Mangtal. We employ a research-driven approach, identifying local needs and piloting innovative solutions to address economic, health, and social barriers that hinder individual and community development.
Witness Our Journey
Our journey began with a vision to uplift underserved communities across Pakistan. Rooted in grassroots initiatives, we’ve worked tirelessly to empower individuals, promote education, and create sustainable solutions that transform lives and inspire hope.
Our Mission
We are committed to empowering marginalized communities through grassroots initiatives, education, and economic development. Our mission is to create sustainable solutions that uplift lives and foster long-term self-sufficiency.
Our Vision
We envision a society where every individual has access to opportunities, resources, and support to lead a dignified life. Through collective efforts, we aim to build stronger, healthier, and self-reliant communities across Pakistan.
Our Guiding Principles
We learn from our community as much as they learn from us. Our team continues to seek ways to improve and meet the needs of the Urban Impact Lab.
Our work encompasses not only at the local level, but seeks to contribute knowledge at the national and global level. We routinely share our research in journals.
Improving the quality of life of poor urban communities cannot be done alone. we partner with government and private sector stakeholders and work together.
We share our findings through the Urban Impact Lab, collaborating with stakeholders such as students, civil society, and media for information sharing and learning.
